LAKEVIEW BUCHAREST – A FIRST FOR BREEAM IN ROMANIA

The Lakeview office building in Bucharest is the first ever BREEAM certified building in Romania, achieving a Very Good (Design and Procurement) rating.

Developed by AIG/Lincoln Hungary, the building is due for completion in December 2009, with tenants to include ABM Amro, Colgate and PricewaterhouseCoopers. 

Paul Gibbon, BRE Global’s Director of Sustainability said: “This is an excellent achievement for the first BREEAM-rated building in Romania. AIG/Lincoln have made this building more sustainable which will bring long term benefits to the owners, future occupiers and everyone who uses the building.” 

David Lawrence, European Director for Construction and Development at AIG/Lincoln said: “We are delighted to achieve the first ever BREEAM certification for a building in Romania. Once again a high priority was placed on developing a brief for the building that put sustainability at the forefront.” 

The building is located in north Bucharest and has a gross floor area of 28,000m2 over 15 floors. It scored particularly well under the Health and Wellbeing, Transport and Land Use and Ecology sections of the BREEAM International Bespoke scheme. 

Under Health and Wellbeing, a pleasant internal environment has been achieved with a natural daylight supply to more than 80% of floor area. In Land Use and Ecology, credits were gained by re-using land which had previously been developed and assessed as having a low ecological value. 

The building is on a site previously used for warehousing and industrial storage, and a commitment has been made to increase the ecological value of the site when the building is complete. Lakeview is in an excellent location between Bucharest airport and the city centre and therefore public transport is easily accessible, with a tram and bus stop within easy walking distance, both of which provide good connections to a main Metro station. 

Overall, the design of the Lakeview Bucharest has been certified with a Very Good rating under the BREEAM International Bespoke 2006 scheme.
